Sculptor & Printmaker.

A FEW WORDS

By Michael Peacock

I am often asked what are these works meant to be,
what are they for? They exist in their own right, and
for their own purpose, as do you or I. God, or what
you will caused us to come into existence for
creation's sake. I made these sculptures for creation's
sake. Drawing and modelling are two and three
diamentional forms of the same craft.

Both are more than just a technique for recording an
impression of life and the real world, or an idea from
the imagination. They are non-verbal thinking
processes that allows you to think in solid reality via
manipulation of the hands. This feeling of the brain
form, the need to store complex images is mind
expanding, allowing total commitment to consideration
of the work.

To think with the hands is probably older than
language, and part of the universal human heritage. It
exercises the whole mind and when employed in the
making of Art, is inherently spiritual.

Art, as creation for the sake of creation, is in my
opinion just as much a prayer, as a form of words, or a
formula for meditation. The visitor can join in and
receive spiritual comfort from this 'prayer' by viewing
the work. This effect is universal. Adherence to a
belief system is not necessary. Beauty and ugliness
are irrelevant as they are just a question of personal
taste.

So when you approach my work, relate to it as an
equal, or simply as another person. They are not
casual decorative items made to enhance a room or
space. Every mark or piece of clay applied or removed
are my thoughts. Each work is a storehouse, they are
me thinking.
